What We Are Doing
Experiments in Opera is a composer- and performer-driven initiative, featuring recent and new works with unorthodox answers to the traditional questions about how to connect words, story and music. Our activities emerge from a pronounced need to nurture composers drawn towards extending their work beyond the standard concert experience and into the hybrid space of the theater, performance, installation, dance and storytelling arts.
Experiments in Opera works two ways. We hatch a theme for an evening and seek out potential collaborators. Often, we locate a community around a nascent opera project may be already underway, and help weave it into a larger framework of presentation. Experiments in Opera is not primarily suited to an open proposal process. However, we’re curious about what opera projects are out there that we might not know about. We are emphatically geared towards aiding the community with connecting opera collaborators, so if we cannot present a proposed project, perhaps we can help in other ways. Please make any materials available by link only through email at firstname.lastname@example.org. We’re happy to hear from you.
