Experiments in Opera presented Off The Ground 2020 at The Flea Theater from March 4 – 7, 2020 as a way to provide audiences with an early glimpse of new works in development at a very low cost.
Performances on March 4 and 5 at 7 PM featured a first look at the new opera Everything for Dawn, which is the product of the ongoing work in the Experiments in Opera Writers’ Room. Everything for Dawn is a 10-episode serial opera that tells the story of a young woman confronting her father’s legacy as an outsider artist. Everything for Dawn, when complete, will feature work by ten composers each of whom will write an episode of this ambitious three-part work. Off The Ground 2020 will featured two workshop performances of Everything for Dawn (Part One) including episodes with librettos by Lauren D’Errico, Jerome A. Parker and Jason Cady and music by Pauline Harris Kim, Phil Kline and Jason Cady.
In addition, Experiments in Opera is thrilled to continue a partnership with Contemporaneous, who will host one of their free seasonal Salons for new work on Saturday March 7, 2020. Visit contemporaneous.org for more information about how to get involved.
